Welcome to Myositis Support and Understanding Association (MSU), a patient-centered, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting and advocating together with and for myositis patients and caregivers by providing education, clinical trial matching, various support programs, advocacy and awareness efforts, empowering volunteer opportunities, patient-centered research, and our financial assistance program.

#Give4Myositis, our 2020 fundraising campaign, and support the patient-centered work we do for the myositis community.

It starts with #GivingTuesday, Nov. 30, 201, a global day of giving. Our 2021 campaign, #GIVINGISGOOD, is our year-end fundraiser and we are asking our fellow patients and care partners, along with family members, friends, and supporters to find the joy in giving for myositis, a rare, incurable disease.

We pivoted, rearranged, and we have thrived thanks to your generous and caring support. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we immediately allocated additional resources for our patient and caregiver support programs and our myositis patient financial assistance program. We also began immediate outreach and education efforts. Drs Lisa Christopher-Stine and Christopher Mecoli joined us live on April 1, 2020, not long after the pandemic struck, and took questions from patients about COVID-19.

And it doesn’t, and can’t, stop there. COVID-19 is likely going to have a severe impact on our lives for a long time. We can’t do this without you! It is only through your generous giving that we work to succeed together as a community.

MSU IS EMPOWERING THE MYOSITIS COMMUNITY

Hello, my name is Sandra and I live in Florida. I went through a difficult time after hurricane Ian. My apartment was destroyed, and I had no money and nowhere to go. I couldn’t think straight, so I had no idea about my next step.

Then I contacted Myositis Support and Understanding (MSU) and asked if there was anything they could do to help me. The answer was YES! Through their Myositis Patient Financial Assistance program, they were able to put me up in a hotel while I waited for a new apartment.

MSU made it easier for me to relax and put myself together. The first few days following Ian, I missed medications including an infusion which added more chaos and worries. Thankful for the help, I could finally relax and start preparing myself for the next steps.

The financial assistance team was compassionate and helped me just by listening. Because of your kindness and help towards my situation, I got through this most difficult time.

I want to say a huge THANK YOU for the help of the MSU Myositis Financial Assistance program. This disease is horrible and it is a daily struggle because of the pain. We know that stress triggers flares and I have been in a terrible flare due to the stress of my house possible going into foreclosure, and the medical bills piling up. Due to the illness, my hours were cut at work and I was struggling. I am doing my best to work while I still can. No bank would help, so every day I worried what am I going to do?
